On May 20th 2025, Prof. Eden Mamut, coordinator of the project UPTAKERS, visited the headquarters of Varjo Technologies Oy in Helsinki, Finland.

At present, the project partners are involved in the process of updating the concepts of the university Labs on XR technologies for education purpose and the structuring of the new and updated courses by integrating XR technologies.
In this context, there are developed inter-campus visits between EU project partners and beneficiary universities involved in the project. On behalf of the Varjo team, Mr. Markku Koivisto presented the company, the key technologies, the main fields of interest and the experience on education activities.
Prof. Mamut had the possibility to follow a demonstration of the large opportunities offered by the Varjo Headsets for automotive industry, aeronautics and other similar fields.
Mr. Koivisto presented also the program of Varjo for collaboration with Academic institutions.
The parties have identified several possibilities for collaboration and the support that Varjo team could offer for the successful implementation of the UPTAKERS project.
The project UPTAKERS – “Upgrading academic skills and innovative caPacities through virTuAlly Enclusive hybRid Studioss” is funded by the European Commission through European Agency for Education and Culture with grant contract no. 101179167/2024, under ERASMUS+ CBHE program and has a total budget of 800,000 euros for an implementation period of three years. The consortium of the project includes as EU MS partners the following Universities: Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania (as coordinator), “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy and Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.
The beneficiary universities of the project are as followings: Arab Academy of Sciences, Technology and Maritime Transport, Egypt, Future University in Egypt, University of Monastir, Tunisia, University of Sousse, Tunisia, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Al-Balqa University of Applied Sciences, Jordan and “El Khawaizmi” Computing Center, Tunisia.
